Culture and places of interest

The renowned Terengganu Inscription Stone was discovered in this area. After a flash flood devastated Kuala Berang in 1899, an Arab trader called Sayid Husin bin Ghulam al-Bokhari unintentionally found it close to Sungai Tersat. The stone's inscription declares Islam to be Terengganu's official religion. This object represents the introduction of Islam to the Malay Peninsula earlier than the Malacca Sultanate. It is currently on view in the Terengganu State Museum.Forest still covered a sizable portion of the district because it was an interior district. Tasik Kenyir, also known as Kenyir Lake, is a famous attraction in the neighbourhood. The Kenyir River was dammed in 1985 to make way for the Sultan Mahmud Power Station, which resulted in the creation of Kenyir Lake, an artificial lake. It is South East Asia's biggest artificial lake. It has 340 tiny islands that were formerly hilltops and hills, more than 14 waterfalls, and a lot of rivers and rapids spread throughout 260 km2 (100 sq mi). The lake is a reservoir, therefore depending on the month, the water level can change. March and April see the highest water levels.Despite being an artificial lake, the region has been developed for ecotourism, and its shores are surrounded by numerous resorts. Fishing is popular, as are excursions to waterfalls, caves, and the jungle. Locals claim that August, when the water level is lowest, is the finest month for fishing. Pengkalan Gawi, Bewah in the National Park, and the banks of the Saok, Lasir, Tembat, and Lawit rivers are all good places to go jungle trekking. Water sports accessible here include rapids shooting, rafting, boating, kayaking, and canoeing.Lata Belukar Bukit and Sekayu Waterfall are more attractions in Hulu Terengganu. Lata Belukar Bukit is a recently created neighbourhood that is well-liked by the inhabitants. Belukar Bukit is a place for camping and picnics. The main draws to this location are its natural surroundings and cooling waters. 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of Kuala Berang is the Belukar Bukit picnic area.
