Kuala Berang (estimated population: 18764) is a mukim and the capital of Hulu Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia. This city acts as the gateway to Lake Kenyir . Terengganu Inscribed Stones were found in Kuala Berang in 1899. Kuala Berang is quite synonymous with Maize found in Kampung Gaong, Kuala Berang and also Baung Fish caught fresh from Sungai Berang.
This area is believed to be the earliest human settlement in Terengganu. This is proven by the discovery of items of daily human use in the caves around Tasik Kenyir. Before the area was flooded, we can see traces of the earliest humans who inhabited the area. The discovery of Inscribed Stones has proven that Terengganu is one of the earliest states to accept the arrival of Islam. Islam is believed to have been brought by traders to Malaya . It is also believed that a port has existed in Kuala Berang. At that time, it was said that the Terengganu Riverthe water is deep enough for a ship to travel from the mouth of the Terengganu River to Kuala Berang. This trader is said to have converted many local residents to Islam, the majority of whom follow Buddhism . From there, Islam has spread throughout the state of Terengganu to the point where many figures are respected by the local population. There was also an Islamic kingdom or better known as the Al-Kamil Dynasty that was associated with a member of the Prophet's family from the Al-Hasani jurai, namely Syarif Muhammad Abdullah Al-Baghdadi who was once the caliph in the city of Baghdad before going to Kuala Berang with a specific mission.
